The Hernandez Research Group lead by Prof. Christopher J. Hernandez is part of the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences at University of California, San Francisco. We are part of the Health Innovations Via Engineering (HIVE) center and the UCSF Musculoskeletal Center.

Sam Stephen just completed his PhD at RPI with Deepak Vashsishth and will join us to figure out how the gut microbiome modifies bone matrix
Congrats to postdoc Kelsey DeFrates who received a research grant for her independent work on the biomechanics of bacteria.
Cangratulations to Junsung Lee who completed his PhD and is moving on to a postdoc in New York City!
We’re sad to see her go, but we are so proud of Erika Cyphert as she starts her lab at UC San Diego!
Hannah is a DDS/PhD student and Natasha is a new Bioengineering PhD student.
Prof. Hernandez visited the White House on April 18 as part of a delegation of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers to advocate for increased participation of Latinos in engineering.
The lab at UCSF has officially opened! Looking forward to working with all of the amazing people at UCSF and UC Berkeley.
Congrats to Postdoc Erika Cyphert who received an NIH postdoctoral fellowship to study the microbiome and bone!
Hernandez will serve on a panel discussing STEM Education and Latino Studentshttps://events.chci.org/event/a6f043e7-c2b0-4409-ade6-c01e990398d9/summary?previewToken=bcb0c546a5cd314b4d1208c0dc2cddda
